Prior to enrolling in the NCCC show this past weekend, I read your reply to a posting regarding security on the NCCC showfield. After reading the posted reply from Lance Miller stating that security would be the same as on the regular showfield and that there would be a 4' high gate around the show area, I decided to drive the 250 miles and spend the $65 to be in the NCCC show. I had done this for the past 5 years and found it hard work but enjoyable since I was on the regular showfield and was able to take a break and see the event. Before I complain, let me just say that on Saturday during the drivers' meeting Lance apologized to everyone about the accomodations, however this still has to be said since I feel that my whole weekend was ruined.
First of all, I couldn't believe after driving up to be teched we were put on a gravel base parking lot with all of the stones going into the tire treads and being flung off everywhere. At that point I should have quit while I was still ahead and entered into the fun display. After being teched in I was guided into a parking spot on the other side of the old John Deer building right off of Clay Street so far away from the action that you would have to take a cab to the showfield past the 9 million vendors. Next I saw the " 4' high fence" that was supposed to protect all of the cars staying on the showfield for security. The fence was concrete reinforcement wire with rebar driven into the dirt and small sections of removable fence wired together
"some security, some planing ahead." Later on that night I had drove into the showfield with a vendor friend of mine and we drove down Clay Street. Well there was my car and all of the other entrants' cars sitting on a completely dark field with guess what NO SECURITY!!!!!!!!. I drove up to the guard house at gate #3 and asked the security people in charge where the security was on the field adjacent to gate #1. I was told that their only job was to guard everything inside of the main showfield and that they weren't aware that there were any cars outside of the showfield and if there were, it wasn't their responsibility. I freaked out and demanded that to see or speak to their superior. At that point one of the guards called his supervisor and explained my concern. The supervisor replied that he would send a car down to pass by and check things out. Well about two hours later I drove by again and guess what? No one was there.
Needless to say between the show, the distance away from the field, the accomodations, and the Security issues, I feel as though this is not only the worst Show weekend that I have ever had the misfortune to attend, but I will probably never return back to Carlisle again with a show car, or possibly as a spectator. Aside from wasting $65, I saw nothing of the show. By the way, I am not a disappointed applicant in the Show who is venting out his frustrations because of loosing or not placing in the NCCC show because my 97 C-5 scored 99.5 and had a tie breaker for 1st place.
Hopefully Lance is a man of his word and as he stated he learned from his mistake, unfortunately it didn't help all of us attending the NCCC show this year.

Buy a Mopar and go to the Chrysler show. That is a GREAT show!

WCJ-

Sorry you feel the way you do. I assure you on the security front I personally requested for our security to stand by gate 1 to watch over both the NCRS Gallery and NCCC (during the night). I'm glad you drove by and had words with the supervisor, thank you. As for the showfield not being appropriate for judging, as I stated during your meeting - MY MISTAKE! I assure you and all of the other NCCC participants it will be changed up next year for the better. If you look at the field it logically looks as if it would work out well - unfortunately I was wrong. Nevertheless I'm only human, but I am happy to admit my mistakes and take a course of action to prevent this from happening next year. As for not coming back again, I'm sorry to hear this and certainly hope you can accept my apology and return next year to get a perfect 100 :) (congrats on the 99.5 - incredible).

Again, I'm sorry to have made a mistake and hope you reconsider for next year's event. Life is good!

Sincerely,

Lance

Lance,
as i stated in my post, I appreciate the fact that you stepped up and realized ( i wouldn't call it a mistake, just a bad decision ) and that you appoligised for it. However i felt that i had to voice my opinion since i know that you aren't the only one envolved with planing and security. Security was especially a BIG problem, one that i never had to face before, and if I had known, wouldn't have faced this weekend. I believe whoever is in charge of security has to be made aware that they dropped the ball by not making ALL of the people under him aware of the areas that they are in charge of. As for a guard up at gate #!, its like posting someone in Alaska to watch Florida, you couldn't see our cars in front of the JD showroom from there and that is the most vonurable area of all since it's right of of the street with gaps in the fence area right on the side of the building and in the dark. however i appreciate you stepping up once again and it proves that you are concerned about all of the cars which are in your care during all of the shows and I also believe that no one has to be concerned about this or security issues happening again. Once again I thank you for your concern and applaude you for your replies, I really don't want this to drag on any longer. wcj

If a few stones and a 99.5 make for a "Horrible Weekend" you may want to joun the "Boy In The Plastic Bubble" Sounds to me like you had a 99.5% Good Time and a .5% Bad time. Life is not perfect But the Corvette Show was close!!!!

Hey all, I to entered the NCCC event and I was'nt happy with the gravel lot but that will change. We were in the wash and show area that WAS inside the gate and there was security there so I slept well. This was our first visit to Corvettes@ carlisle, I was amazed and can't belive how well organized and how helpful everyone connected with the show is. The York County Corvette Club did a great job with the NCCC show and we were quite pleased with our 1980 Coupe being judged Best of W/S with a perfect score of 100. We can't wait for next year. Thanks Lance and your staff for all your hard work.
