What I'm referring to is the local police department(s).

I myself haven't had any problems, but back in 2003, a member of my club was down for the show and got hassled BAD by a local police department. Granted, this truck is licensed in New York, so it's not legal in PA, but it was trailered here and only driven from the campground to the fairgrounds. Well, when he was leaving on Saturday night in '03, the cops were checking out ALL trucks that were headed east on Route 11, and they had him pull over. Well, to make a story short, his truck was illegal for use in PA, but we were travelling about 3 M.P.H., and he was headed back to his campground. The cop threatened to have the truck impounded if he saw it on the street again.

Well, that person didn't come back to Carlisle this year (04) because of this problem, and I'm not sure if he'll be back for '05.

I just think it's a shame that the local P.D. needs to do this to the people that come to Carlisle, and end up hurting the local economy. I doubt he's the only person this has happened to, and I just wanted to find out if this has happened to anybody else.

I didnt get pulled over, but I saw a few other trucks get pulled over right outside the fair grounds for no "good" reason. My truck is at legal limit right now and I would love to make it bigger, but I still want to be able to drive it and can't b/c I dont want to go to Carlisle and get my truck impounded. It kinda ruins things when the cops start harrassing people. They came to my hotel room and demanded to see everyones I.D.'s because we were drinking.. We were all of age and weren't doing anything that would cause trouble like being loud and what not..they really had no reason at all to hassle us.

I don't think my $200.00 fine hurt the local government's economy. I also don't think they care if I don't spent that amount locally next year.

The horrror stories about the local police are too numerous to mention. The question is whether the owners of the Carlisle events can do anything about it. Can they?

I have a rather unique vehicle which I doubt would pass a Carlisle police inspection although it is legal in my state.

One of the guys in our group got selectively pulled over and watched the cops only pulling over out of state show trucks.

The sad part is my vehicle is perfectly drivable but being a minitruck truck I can't fit the family into it. I have to trailer it from OHIO anyways, so to avoid tickets I might as well trailer it into the fairgrounds............ but that takes away some of the fun of just driving it around at night to go to dinner and showing people that its a real vehicle and not just a pampered trailer queen.

And at 11:00 PM the cops were called by the local hotel management and we were told to go into our rooms. We were sitting outside benchracing eating pretzels and drinking my diet coke..... no loud music, no open alchohol just felt like it was routine procedure.

I'm 42 years old --- I haven't been sent to my room for doing nothing since I was 12.

We just set up opperations on the showfield and we were left alone, we tapped the keg, lit the grill and stayed there skipping the hotel thing. What is funny is that my truck is legal in PA as far as I know but illeagal in my home state of VA (12 inches lift, 4 inch VA limit). We arrived Friday afternoon, and left Sunday with the crowd so we didn't get involved with the locals too much.

But yeah, it is a car show, you will have unique vehicles there, just leave them alone and they will be gone in 2 days. Come on, unless your drivign like an ass they should just let it go.

We have had this problem the last two years, yep we got sent to our rooms at 11:00 pm a couple years ago. Part of the weekend is meeting up with friends you may only see once a year and having a few in the motel parking lot. As long as no one is driving or being obnoxious. What is the problem with that?
There is some that will never return because of th local police over reacting.

I didnt know you could stay on the fairgrounds.. When I looked on the web page before we left it said that setting up camp there was not permitted. I would have much rather done that.

carlisle is like it all year. trust me i know i live outside of the carlisle. we get kicked out of a parking lots all the time and they usually arrest people for no reason. they act like they rather see kids getting stoned and drunk as long as its outside of town. i'm sorry but when your only atraction in the town is car shows then why don't u support it rather than demolish it. The old people around the fairgrounds hate the shows but i don't hear them bitch about getting 10 bucks for people parking in there yard or their property taxes.

and the amount of money you spend at the show is nuts.

go to lowrollers next year

I thought there waws protection under the constitution that makes the different states adhere to the other states laws. "Full faith and credit clause". So when a person from out of state comes to PA they have to recognize the other states vehicle codes. So if its legal in Ohio then it should be recognized here. That is the whole problem right now with some states alowing gay marriage and others not. Wouldnt it kinda be like the same deal? Maybe im wrong....

Hello everyone. My name is Final Ride. The cops didn't really bother me but I did see some trucks pulled over. I couldn't drive my vehicle. It's not tagged yet. But if I could I would get pulled over for sure. I have the 4x4 Hearse. I had a great time this year. Set up show, had alot of a few, Fell in pool and got wet. The only P.D. that I had a tiff with was in the fairgrounds. Deputy Dog strikes again. I think that the staff have enough to worry about with every event the put on, and shouldn't have to listen to most wine-rs. Most people in the U.S. know that anythinhg with 12 in. lift is not legal to drive in PA, MD, VA, and most surrounding states. And as far as the mini's to low tears up the road. Duh If we work with the staff and help them as much as possible things will work out.

Thanx, Newest member of the purple Helmet Surfers.

As I was reading through this thread I was thinking the Cops must enforce shows differently. In 15 years I've never seen a Cop on the grounds for Spring or Fall Carlisle, nor have we seen one about town in all that time. The day we get hassled for having a cold one on the grounds, or at the Hotel will be the last time we attend. The only time we see Police at the shows is directing traffic.

Ford for Life,
I know exactly who your talking about. And it's a damn shame cause it couln't have happened to a nicer person. The cops definitly over reacted a bit. I wish he woulda been there this year. But I don't blame him for not coming back.

What hotel are you guys staying at where you're having the authorities cruise through? We stayed at the Clarion last year and there was no police presence. Hotel security cruised through every now and then and told us to keep it down, but otherwise all was well.
