If Anyone Out There Would Be Able To Give Me Info On The Rb Engines! In Particular The 413 It Seems That It's Not Listed In Some Or Most Of The Parts Directory's! It's My Understanding That The 383-413-426-440 Are All Rb Engines? Are All Or Most Of The Parts The Same Or Not? I'm Looking To Do A Complete Tuneup & Rebuild The Carb. Some Parts Are Not Listed For The 413 Can Someone Give Me Some Reliable Info On This Matter. Thank You!!!!!!

Mopar engine families for big block
361, 383, 400 are "B" engines lower deck height
413, 426, and 440 are "RB" engines RB means raised block
To confuse matters there was a 383 raised bnlock around 1960
Do not confuse the 361 with the 360(which is a small block)
intakes are the main difference, as well as rod length, and distributer length between these 2 engine families.
heads, water pumps, and a lot more are the same.

I Want To Do A Complete Tuneup! Carb Rebuild & Valve Cover Gaskets. Been Thinking About Converting It To Electronic Ignition.

I suggest you try a few auto parts stores because one should be able to match up what you need. Take a plug out and get the same ones. I have never used them but I have heard good things about Pertronix electronic ignition conversions. http://www.pertronix.com/ I think the ignitor system is a direct replacement for the points. Cap and rotor from any big block should work. If you want to get good info check out www.moparstyle.com.

as far as valve cover gaskets, points, condenser, rotor and cap, you will find that they are pretty much the same for a 383, 400, 440 as your 413, as long as it was still point equipped.
I use parts from NAPA, the good ones not the cheap! Some of the "other" discount stores sell cheap junk!
As far as a carb rebuild, I am guessing a four barrel????
maybe a carter afb(aluminum four barrel)?
generally, you may or may not have the original carb, sometimes it requires the part number of the carb to get a kit.
I would think though that it is the Carter AFB on that 413, should be able to get a kit no problem.
I just put in Bosch plugs in both of my 383's, best plugs I've ever used so far!
And NOT the platinums, a lot of people have had problems with those.
Had a petronix conversion in one of my other cars, ran great for 2 years and went bad.........thank goodness I kept the points with the car as I was out of state qwhen it failed. To me, points have worked well for many years, and that's what the car was designed for, simple to change if needed. And why modify a wiring harness to go electronic, only inviting more problems........

No special wiring on the petronix, I guess I should have made myself more clear, a lot of people thought I should have converted to the more modern MOPAR electronic ignition.............that would have required modifying my harness which I didn't want to do as I have a repro motor compartment harness I bought through Year One which I am not going to cut. And yes I have had a failure of the petronix, granted it was in a Corvair, and not a MOPAR. I'm still from the old school, and use points.
Have had plenty of problems with the Dumb Look at a lot of auto parts stores, mainly Advance and Auto Bone. I have 2 NAPA stores in my area and both of them have car enthusiasts working there that are ASE certified parts specialists. I have never gotten the dumb look there. Now all guys at the NAPA know me, and I get good service there and don't chase after saving 2 dollars on an inferior oil filter from another store, I buy NAPA.
The 440 wire set will be fine, bet NAPA will get the right application for you.
I bought my rebuild kit for my AFB at NAPA 5 years ago when I rebuilt the carb..........mine was a 66 Coronet with a 383, pretty much the same motor as yours.
Of course, your experience at your local stores may vary.........

The following is from a friend of mine who is an ASE parts specialist and has worked 'both" sides.............so about whwere you look for parts..........and training, ..........swi66
NAPA hires drivers with no parts experience, the drivers begin to get a feel
for the business delivering parts that are invoiced to the customers. By
having to compare parts numbers and descriptions to the invoices, at least
they know a muffler bearing from a knibbling pin <G>.
As a Counter Trainee (next step up from driver), a trainee continues to
drive, but starts learning the computer system from the training course, so
at least they know which category a customers request is in to look it up.
Of course NAPA's Parts Pro computer system now reaches back to 1928.
Trainees also have courses on how to use the books, something AFAIK NO other
company does.
I believe this training by NAPA is done because 90% of their business is
still commercial, and they can't have their customers po'ed by having to
talk to a (through no fault of their own) ignorant newbie in the parts
business---time is money.
And, of course, how much can you expect from someone who is making 7.00 or
less per hour for a full time job on the counter because the chains don't
feel it important to pay a parts person like it's a real career?? NAPA
drivers start at 8.00/hr.

I did finally find most of what i was looking for. Napa helped with a few things like carb rebuild kit champion plugs which is still the same number. Y1 looks like they should have most of the other items i'm looking for. I've decided to stay with my original single point distributor since i'm trying to keep it as original as possible. Y1 has a rebuild kit & the right color cap. Thanks for all of the help & info.

Last year I bought a re-man distributer from NAPA as well.
Came with points and condenser installed and was even the proper distributer with the "oil hole".
price was right too..........

I would like to keep the original distributor if possible. I have seen alot of company's that have the re-man distributor. I have found everything but the vacuum advance. I thought it might be a good idea to replace it since it is 40 Yrs old. I just may decide to go with a re-man distributor instead. I haven't decided yet but thank you again for the info!
