I have been attending Chryslers at Carlisle since 1995 and occasionally attend Spring Carlisle. I love every aspect about the show with the exception of the caliber of the giveaway cars. As a national show, I believe Carlisle should give away a car that represents the hobby as a whole. A more mainstream car that most people would like, not a 1980's fwd enco box, or a four door sedan. I'm not one to complain about a free lunch, but if you are going to give something away, you might as well make it something the majority wants. If you do, more people will stick around on Sunday and spend more money at the show. Thanks for giving us a place to share our input, and keep up the good work. Jon

I just wish they would give them away sooner...........a lot of us have to drive home and be to work on Monday, which means leaving at noon or so.
I know they want to keep the event going as long as possible, but look how many leave early on Sunday.............
so i guess raising the cost to get in to give away a better car would work

I've only stayed for the giveaway car a couple of times and I've been to every show and entered my car every year since 96. Most of the vendors are either gone or packing up early on Sunday and the awards take forever to hand out so I either just don't go on Sunday or I leave early and give my tickets to someone else. One car I did stay for was the Shelby Charger. I really wanted that one. It's a shame it went to someone who didn't appreciate it and flipped it onto Ebay.

I , too have been going to every Chrysler Nationals since 1995 . I realize they can't give away big buck cars like Hemi's & 440+6 .But , come on , if you go to the Corvette show , you win a corvette , not a Chevette !!! Maybe a decent two door Mopar that has some potential is a start , or a nice Dodge truck , even . Not a four door or econobox !

Perhaps they put too much effort into finding low mileage original cars. I'd take any free car but I wouldn't have any problem with it if they gave away a "restified" car. Or, maybe, a clone. How about a 69 base model Belvedere made into a fake Road Runner with a Mopar crate engine? Or a 318 or slant 6 Charger cloned into an R/T? I couldn't care less about originality. My car is a testament to that. I sure could be more excited about staying for the giveaway of a nicely done clone than a four door anything.

I personally remember the black Superbird they gave away many years ago. It was paraded around to local shows on a trailer to promote the Carlisle events.
We all know that Carlisle is awesome & we also know that they make MAJOR cash. The Money goes far, but there are lotsa costs involved in maintaining the field, paychecks & so on but it seems as Carlisle productions gets bigger the prizes get smaller including magnetic dash plaques, 4dr non desirable cars, & the such.
I don't want to sound negative because their shows are the best anywhere. I love the grounds, clean, well maintained, organization is off the map good, & so on but well just don't forget who got you where you are I guess is what I am saying.

At least Carlisle still gives away a car, when was the last time the MOPAR NAts did that? And look what it costs to go to the Nats. Carlisle is still a bargain.
Actually I think any of the MOPARS they gave away would look great in my garage, and would be proud to get one and not flip it on e-bay. That is of course if I could afford the "taxes". From what I understand, it's a big hit income wise due to regulations, they are appraised at way above market value, and are considered income.................prepare to pay!

Why would they have to do that? They already take in at least $6 a head, and the cars they currently give away arn't free either.

:) Very good idea to make the giveaway prize a Crate motor. The other great idea is having the giveaway vehicle a 2 Dr base vehicle less motor and trans, but in very good shape. This is better than a puttyed up 4Dr /6 or Poly V8.

Jon,
Do you realize the GLHS was the ultimate sleeper? I personally would take any car, cause I love them all. Some want only muscle cars, others sleepers, others newer. It wouldn't hurt them either to give away a newer vehicle from a local dealership either. It'd be a tax right off anyway. Look w/Oprah did w/ her giveaway, & she didn't even pay for those cars.

They do seem to focus to much on low mileage original cars. I wish they would give away something with a little more pizzaz. The last few were rather mundane. Has anyone ever heard what they spend for a car? What is a 4dr 64 Dodge worth? Low miles and all. I am trying to remember the last few cars. 64 Valiant, 64 Dodge and 85 Turismo? I can't remember before those but I recall they were much cooler.

I like the four door cars .I didn't like the mid 80's selection. From reading the previous posts I guess that means everyone has thier own taste.I also like the original cars over a modified car.Anyone can have a modified car but the originals are hard to come by.
Does anyone know how they choose the car to give away?Do they only find the cars in the cars for sale section or do they come by them outside the fairgrounds too.Is there a dollar limit on what they spend ?
