View Full Version : Is 06 gonna be the last year for the ATNs?

I have heard several places and several people that Carlisle Productions is considering droping the ATNs after 2006.

Is this true? I sure as hell hope not! I love this show. I been to several other show, and none of can even compare to the ATNs. It's even past Bloomsburg in it's quality. I ain't even gonna go back up to bloom next year. It sucks.

I hope yall don't drop it.

It would be cray to drop this show. I've been to every one since 1995 and it has gotten huge since then. I don't know where you were parked last year but over near gate 3 we ran out of places to put trucks. The place was about as packed as I have ever seen it adn without the camping the stupidity level has really dropped off.

Actualy I too was near gate 3, just beside the wash area. It was packed witch is why I found it hard to belive that they'd consider droping it. It's just a rumour I've heard I'm just try to find out if it's fact or fiction.

Rest easy guys, I was just hired to manage the All Truck Show, so I packed my bags and moved from Ohio - the show isn't going anywhere! Things will only get better in 2007, I already have a file started for ideas for 2007...like, it's the 25 anniversary of the S-10 (1982 to 2007).

Glad to hear no plans to axe the show. Hey Offroad, who were you hanging out with near gate 3? I am with the Purple Helmet Surfers. You know, the Hawaiian theme guys.

offroadford4x4

Ya, I was sorta near gate 3. I was in the first lot next to the truck wash area and the restrooms, at the base of the hill. I was parked with FordTruckWorld.

I can't say that I've ever heard of the Purple Helmet Surfers.

You'll have to stop by next year. We are the guys with the swimming pool, the Hawaiian shirts and the big 4wd Hearse.

Ah, now I know the hearse, I think everybody reconizes that.

Thanks for the invite! I may just have to do that.

Can I come for a swim? now I know who you are...the past couple years I have been a participant and always said to my friends we should just go ask if we can swim :) Too bad I'll be too busy to do that this year.

I told you you have heard of us Rich! As long as we can still fill it your more than welcome to stop by for a plunge. All are welcome in the pool. That's what it's there for. As for having the time, I'm sure you can either take a short lunch break at Subway( right next to us ) and eat at our new Tiki Bar we are building! We won't tell!

I just wish they wouldn't kick you out for dragging some frame. I just feel that the minitruckers are getting filtered out at last years show. If you dragged in the slightest bit.....your sticker was "scraped" and you were kicked out. This was just plain stupid. I understand the whole damage to the pavement, but this show has been going on for years and have yet to see any detrimental damage to any of the paved roads within the fairgrounds. I know I probably won't be going back to the ATN for 2006. I know a lot of mini's that won't be back because of the unfair treatment they received.

Thats all I seen and heard all day long (people draggin). I didn't see anybody gettin kicked out fer draggin. Not that I want to see people kicked out. I like the mini's and all, just hate the sound of them draggin constantly.

I understand the whole damage to the pavement, but this show has been going on for years and have yet to see any detrimental damage to any of the paved roads within the fairgrounds.

Than you ain't looked at the road I was parked on. there is all kinds of cuts, scrapes and gouges in the pavement. It may not be real bad yet, but every year it will keep gettin worse. If you go in gate 3, and at the intersection just past the restrooms, where the trees are, it's the road on the left. the one allmost all the mini's used to get back to the hill.

Rich@Carsatcarlisle
12-13-2005, 03:26 PM
The mini's will not be overlooked and pushed aside anymore. I hope you come back and give ME a chance to prove that the show is now ran by a trucker with all truckers in mind.
If we add a drag contest, we will just tell people that if they want to drag do it there!

offroadford4x4

If we add a drag contest, we will just tell people that if they want to drag do it there!

Now thats a hell of an idea! Give them guys a place to show off their stuff! That should be good enough for most the people who drag to keep em happy. And on top it would help save the road through the grounds in the long run too.

2 ideas for it would be to use a nice hard concrete, it won't wear out as fast and with some speed should provide sparks for the crowds.

On the other hand, using blacktop will save the frames of the trucks, but you won't get the sparks and it'll tear up alot easier, though it'd prolly be cheeper to repair.

AIminiS10

I would definetly be down for a drag contest....I think that will be a great idea. If everything is going to be as good as it sounds, I just might be coming back to try it for another year. I am glad that you are going to make this better than what it has been Rich. I am looking forward to seeing how this turns out this year!! :D

dual layer of concrete barriers and a dragging / burn out area would be sweet

probably not insurable but sweet idea.

Just a 100 feet were we can do the things that the cops would prefer we did there rather than on the streets.

MAKe it legal to do it some where and then throw any one who is abusive outside that zone out!

and to reiterate again......... Make sure the trohies don't say FUN FIELD.

Rich@Carsatcarlisle
12-19-2005, 09:41 AM
I just noted that the awards will not say fun field. And i got the ok from the facilities director to have a drag contest; so, I should have the go ahead soon from everyone else. I'll keep you posted. Also, thanks for giving the show another try! It should be a great time for everyone.

*bowdown smilie* on both accounts.

Now for an item that might be tougher.

2 years ago the stands were blocked off at 4:30 for a 5:00 burn out / bikini / lifted / lowered contest.. I had friends who had saved me and my family a seat while I competed.

In 05 I competed earlier in the afternoon, got to the stands at 3:30, again had some friends with seats, and Carlisle Events staff had just closed them. One suggestion I had made from the year before that was incorporated was a bathroom pass system so that if you were in to begin with, if you could at least get back in.

Each time the stands looked less than full.

Is there a possibilty of a large screen and a camera man or some other method of increasing the number of people that can view this? I also imagine that the draggin contest will be another very popular event.

AIminiS10
12-19-2005, 10:55 AM
I agree with the grandstand idea. I never seen a problem with the grandstands until the security guards were all up in everyone's faces about getting into the stands. I don't know why Carlisle changed the whole thing having security guards regulate who goes in and out. I think along with others about abolishing this whole wristband/pass idea. Security should just be there to keep people off the steps like they used to do.

I would recommend the drag contest be in front of the stands and block off the area in front of the stage and down towards where the monster trucks are so that the contestants can get a little speed to throw some sparks. Don't forget that there has to be some speed involved. :D

Keep us updated Rich!! Thanks!!

Jeremy

The idea of the big screen and a cameraman is perfect. Put the screen away from the grandstands or on the other side of the stage so then the amount of people enjoying the special events will increase exponentially. I tried getting down for the burnout contest but gave up and just went back to the swimming pool.

My daughter really wanted to see the lowered and lifted trucks so I put her on my shoulders for just a little bit both years. A 10- 11 year old is too short to see much but they are too FRIGGIN heavy to set on my shoulders for very long too!

The new area could also be used for a spot for more than just the mini truckers draggin. I would love to hear the motors of some of the trucks doing more than just cleaning out the plugs while in line. A burnout to a rolling 1st gear acceleration would allow hearing the motors as they should be heard, Wide Open Throttle.

Rich@Carsatcarlisle
12-20-2005, 10:21 AM
The roll into first gear could get a little dangerous. Some people might lose control and that would be very bad! As for the TV screen, I like that idea. However I need to look into the cost.

i love the drag comp. one thing that made me not plan to attend the 06 show is that the night life in carlisle is boaring. i almost got arrested for driving around looking for something to do(cruising is against the law there) . i wasn't dragging or burning out despite what my id says. there is a time and place for that. i think that beside the dragging area :D it would be nice to have a lane around the grounds to cruise around and let it run through the new drag pit so people can mess around quick on the lap around :) . i started attending 3 years ago and was going to stop at that but with the new ideas i have seen ill give it another shot.

Rich@Carsatcarlisle
01-02-2006, 02:39 PM
dragginranger...thanks for giving it another shot. As for the "drag lane" that is a bit hard here because we have so many trucks coming, going and walking around that having a traffic flow would get congested.

I'm 44 years old and got sent to my room :( at 11:00 PM. in both 2004 and 2005

I know that that isn't Carlisle events fault but if trophies were awarded Saturday evening I would do that so there was something to do rather than get into trouble. MAybe even have a best lighting show.

I got there at 9 Sunday morning and waited around until almost 2:30 before getting my plaque and photo. To Carlisle Events's credit they did offer to allow people to take their trophies early Sunday morning but I wanted that parade / winners picture.

In 2004 I stayed at one hotel and the police showed up and threatened to arrest us if more than 1 person were outside our rooms for any reason. We were sitting in lawnchairs on a second floor balcony. Last year we asked Security if we could hang out at our club tent after the show "officially" shut down at 9:00pm. They let us hang out on Saturday until Midnight and we had a great time. They did have a problem with another group on the other side of the field but the police came in quickly and corrected the problem. I do appreciate the chance to stay on the field and think that it should be allowed again if possible. Not to camp but just to hang out. I understand the reasons why camping just doesn't work anymore. As long as the groups keep themselves in check we can have a good time and not have to worry about the hotel craziness.

Rich@Carsatcarlisle

We have a few ideas to keep the show going after dark so you don't need to go and find something to do. We want to keep you at the show as long as possible so you have fun here. A Neon contest is in the works, so is a drag contest and possibly a moive (like concrete video or something).

you could also get ahold of the domination video crew to come show a movie and tape this event. they usually travel with mini truckin magazine too

spikesblazin
04-01-2006, 03:07 PM
as far a a video, i taped last years video. i have my own video editing house. and i produced a 2.5 hrs long video of the events and what all happened during the weekend. to me domination is to main stream towards certain clubs only. they dont film anyone but certain clubs... i am not saying use my video or anything like that. but just sayin. i rather see a main stream video than a club oriented video. i am in the makes of a State to State draggin video from clips around the USA. and other places. but i know not all people will like dragging trucks. you have a large variety of trucks coming to this truck show.

as far a draggin, where will it be held at? and how is it gonna work. i know some NJ guys that went to a show they had a long straight away and it was blocked off for people to film/take pics from the side.

if you have press passes do you get to get front stage viewing for the draggin instead of being behind the crowd..

Rich can you email me at spikeblazin@gmail.com i have some other questions for you.

The drag contest will be limited to the first XXX number of people who sign up. Just like the bikini, burnout, etc. So we won't have hours of dragging. I love dragging more than the next guy, but I want to go home and sleep!

Hey Carlislerocks. Rich would be able to tell you for sure but the last couple of years there has been a camping area adjacent to the fairgrounds and you can literally walk through a gate to the camping area. We have a couple of people in our group that stay over there and they hang out on the field with the rest of us until they close the field down and then walk over. Last year Security was Ultimately cool and let us stay on the field as long as we wanted ( we were there until after Midnight on Saturday ) as long as we were cool adn didn't go too crazy. We have been going for many years and have built up a good relationship with them. If we do anything that could lead to a problem they come over and ask us NICELY to keep things in check and we do.

Rich@Carsatcarlisle
05-15-2006, 08:53 AM

Sorta, but you'll see when you get here. If it will work, if not there I will make it happen somewhere else.

the long main drag on the fairgrounds would be perfect. I am talking about the one you come in on after gate 3 going straight ahead. Have people line up by subway, then on there turn have them turn right and drag down that drag past the "car wash" area, and have them lift off by the bottom of the hill.

Rich@Carsatcarlisle
06-19-2006, 08:31 AM
After seeing how the guys have the stage area set-up for the burnout I decided to do it somewhere else. Right now I am thinking about dragging down from the hill. I know I can drag down hill in control, what about everyone else?

The thing about where we do it is that between 7:00pm and the contest being over we need to have the road closed and gate 3 is the main exit so that isn't possible. We also need to rope it off so people aren't getting run over :)

And to answer the question about the transition from burnout box to pavement, that was the first thing I looked at and it was perfectly smooth.

dragginranger

you could do the road on the hill that runs parellel to the main drag start at the top and let-er rip

hey rich, i might be able to use a truck from my work to bring my show truck down. only problem is that its a big box truck and i would need a loading dock to unload my truck out of it. is there one there or nearby that would be able to be used.

Rich@Carsatcarlisle
06-29-2006, 03:44 PM
How far can you drive the truck? We have two options, one is at our expo center and the other is just outside gate 1. BUT the gate 1 dock is being removed between now and the Corvette show, so it may or may not be there. If you can drive your truck a city block, we can get you hooded up.
