Just to avoid the confussion that some people were having I deleted the list of classes that I suggested because it was determined that we would stick with the Top 3 in each class.
Thanks.

Definitely different from any other, but I don't know about 25 trophies for under construction vehicles. Other than that it's a cool idea, I would like to see some classes split, like stock GM, Ford, Mopar, and Import. As well as pre-80 split into Streetrod( pre-48 ), Custom( 48 - 80 ). Also how about a class for Commercials?
I'd be really interested to see what other people would think about getting an award for 25th place, but I do see what you mean about classes with very few entrants or an enormous amount.
How about this for a suggestion: Start out with a fixed class list, say 20 classes of whatever type. When a class gets to a certain size, divide the class further. For example, Say you have a stock GM class. Once you get to 10 entrants, split the class into GM Stock A and GM Stock B with 5 entrants in each class. Then if you get to 20 vehicles total, split the classes again into 4 classes A,B,C,D. The split date can be the median year of the vehicles entered. This can be done each time a sub class gets too big and can be adjusted even at the showfield as the weekend proceeds. All of the vehicles in the "base" class can park nearby each other but they do not necessarily have to be next to all of the sub-class.
I know its not perfect, but I think it would allow you to start with broad classes that you know would fill but as the weekend goes on the classes would never get too large that people would not have a chance to win a trophy. And it would cut down wasted class trphies to next to none since you only add classes when the entrants arrive. The only thing that I can see as a real problem is that people won't know exactly who they are competing against and the year of their class sub category until registration ends.
What do you think?

25 Under Construction...lol...I agree, that wont happen. As I mentioned, each class wouldn't have 25 awards. Last year even though we had 1604 trucks on the showfield, only 415 went through judging and 117 of those were 2wd chevys.
Thanks for the opinion - keep it coming everyone!

The word "fun Field" on the trophy also is lame. This is supposed to be a prestigeous event.
Not sure about the class divisions suggestion, going to be tough to satisfy people.
Regarding the more popular classes having multiple winners just seems like you aren't truely coming to a conclusion,
Do a top 3 as normal then add additional place trophies 1 / every 5 entrants.
Make them generic "top ten"
PS----- How many years can a vehicle be in under construction?
No top 25, just seperate the classes more. If there ends up being only 2 trucks in a class....so be it. Also, take away the "Fun Filed" on the plaques and replace it w/ the class that was won.

For what it's worth, I liked it best when the classes were organized by make / size / bodystyle / years (generation) / 2wd - 4wd and then subcategorized further into stock / mild / wild.
Here's where I'd make a few changes though:
Merge the SUV's and Pickups so that you only differentiate by size. The bodyshapes are different, but because the frames and engines are typically interchangeable, aren't the available mods and accessories similar?
Change from 2wd / 4wd to lifted and lowered. There are a lot of lowered AWD Escalades out there, why group them with the offroad guys? Similarly, more and more lifted 2wd's are showing up -- why group them with the street guys? They're not built with the same intentions, so why judge them like they were?
Merge the midsize and compact classes. Very few manufacturers offer both at the same time, so why differentiate them? Just as an example, we all know the Trailblazer and Colorado replaced the Blazer and S-10, so they'll have their break in the generation / year category. Is there need distinguish compact vs. midsize?
Based on show participation of years past, can't excess trophies by year / generation be eliminated by grouping those classes with similar classes that are more popular? For example, if '60?-'66 GM participation is historically low, why not group it with the '67-'72 GM class?
Would their be anything wrong with Miscellaneous stock / mild / wild classes to pick up the strays?
I'll be honest -- I've never really paid too much attention to the import trucks. So I don't know whether it would be better to have all the import makes grouped into a general import class or to break them out by manufacturer. But I'm confident that GM Ford and Chrysler could be broken down as I discussed above. Jeep and International are probably worthy of their own major classes, but would obviously have fewer subclasses. Vans -- I'd give them their own classes at least by manufacturer.
--EDIT--
If nothing else, you definitely need to reword 2wd/4wd to lowered/lifted for reasons stated above and you need to put generation brackets in there. It's not right to see excellently built older trucks passed over for newer trucks simply because they're "outdated".

Thanks for the input.
If you notice what I have listed did switch the 2wd & 4wd to lowered and lifted. I couldn't agree more and said the same thing to everyone here and if you go to register, I had them change that a couple weeks back.
I see your point on the compact & midsize if we break them up by year. I'll look more heavily into this as more pre-regs come in.
Thanks again.

What happens if I change my vehicle after I've preregistered for judged?
Sounds like I don't know where I will be anyways, LOL.

If you pre-reg and you change, you just need to tell us. It happens all the time. I know I've done it :)

The big rig classes will be a lot like 2005, but noting is set in stone right now. We'll post it up as soon as we have them locked in!

That is the most confusing class's I've seen. If you have a modified a 40's - 50's chevy or a stock 60 Dodge or a wild 30's Ford, would they all be in the pre 80's class? And what is your definition of lowered? When I hear that I'm thinking slammed to the ground not just 6 inchs or so. Help!!!!

The post has been modified. The class list you saw was JUST AN IDEA to get feedback. The feedback came and that list was toss out. We are sticking with the top 3 in each class. The classes will be adjusted from last year based on the pre-registration and the numbers from last year. Also mentioned in this post is that the pre '80 is a bad class and will be looked at and broke up the best way possible.

Good, are you going to take the "Fun Field" off the plaques too? And replace them w/ the class won? ;)

We will probably not have the class won because that gets to be a lot of extra $$ and work for the trophy guy. We'll have show field instead of fun field.
One thing on the Big Rig classes, we will not be having the NAST portion back in 2006. We didn't get a huge response like we thought, so we will have our normal big rig classes only.
We'll have show field instead of fun field.
.
Much better.

I thought about that too and I changed it to 2wd or lowered trucks and 4wd and lifted trucks. That way if a truck is lifted and 2wd they still go in the lifted field and if there is a lowered 4wd they get into the lowered field and the stock people will fall in whichever.
OR...we make everyone buy a lift or lowering kit as they come in the door and we'll have a install both set up at gate 3 :D
