Hello.
A friend and I will be making the trip from Portland, Oregon this year. It's always been a dream to come out there for this show. You only live once.
I booked rooms last year already so that's taken care of.
I'm a incomplete paraplegic, meaning my mode of transportation is my wheelchair  . Could someone hook me up with some assistance for persay parking? Will my Washington state handicap placard for the rearview mirror be sufficient?
I would like a map of the fairgrounds showing the disabled parking areas and the different roads leading into the area, PLEASE.
Any kind of help would be greatly appreciated. It's intimidating venturing off into unchartered waters, :D . People stare bad enuf as it is, I don't need to give them any more reason by holding up traffic. I'm sure to get an old fashioned PA. salute by telling me I'm #1 by holding up traffic. :D
THANKS IN ADVANCE!
AllBlueRT,
You're making a huge trip here to PA and we thank you for planning to visit. :) I will find out the answers to your questions and get back to you shortly. We have a directions page on our website here that will give you general directions from major points nearby:
http://www.carsatcarlisle.com/getting_to_carlisle.asp
You may also view a general fairgrounds map here:
http://www.carsatcarlisle.com/pdf/Carlisle_Map_SF.pdf
I am unsure about parking but I will get back to you tomorrow regarding that. If there is anything else I can help you with, please don't hesitate to PM or email me. :D
If you look at the map in the link I posted above, parking is available inside Gate 3. Follow the road from Gate 3 towards the building marked as "RECEIVING". The two rows on the right hand side of that building are spaces for handicapped parking. Provided you have a license or the placard you mentioned, you should be all set! Show that at Gate 3 and they should direct you to the parking area.
Carlisle is easily accessible via the turnpike (interstate 76) or I-81 (interstate 81). They would probably be your two major routes into town. I'll see if I can come up with a map for you. ;) Let me know if there is anything else I can do for you.

RIGHT-ON. THANK YOU very much!!!!
I want to be on top of this as much as possible, and obviously I'm ahead of the game. And you have helped a bunch already Dan. What size shirt do you wear?
Could you tell me what the fairgrounds (ground) consists of where it's held? I imagine a combination of grass and asphalt?
I have the wider tires for grass and the skinnies for pavement. Is it more one than the other?
Are golf carts allowed by any chance?
Thanks, Mike.
Hey Mike,
The fairgrounds are asphalt with grass rows. The asphalt is not perfect so you can expect to run into spots that have loose stones, etc. I can shoot you a few pictures if you'd like. :)
This is the info posted on our website. You can rent "scooters" here as far as I'm aware but I'm not sure if that would be a better option than your wheelchair or not. We don't rent our golf carts but I believe you may bring your own with you (not sure that's an option with the distance you're travelling) with the proper insurance. If you call our front desk, they can give you definite answers and arrange anything in advance for you. The number here is (717)243-7855.
You can order a free PA travel guide that includes the official highway map for PA here: http://www.visitpa.com/visitpa/orderTravelGuideForm.pa
Disabled guests are welcome to enter with their own wheelchairs and three- or four-wheeled electric convenience vehicle (ECV). Disabled individuals may rent an electric convenience vehicle from our authorized vendor located just inside gate three with appropriate credentials. ECV rentals are limited and disabled individuals are encouraged to make rental arrangements in advance of the event by contacting Nice & Associates toll-free 1 (800) 856-2669, or (330) 412-9414, or to arrive early to assure availability of a rental unit. Reservations may also be made reserve online.Operators of ECVs are required to possess appropriate credentials while on grounds. Exceptions to this policy will be considered on a case by case basis for disabled persons unable to operate a three-wheel vehicle who have their own properly insured golf cart and who make arrangements in advance of arrival.
Anything else, just let me know! :D

This will be my 6th straight year to Carlisle and I'm sure you will be in awe of all the nice Mopars. Here are some pics that I have taken in the past few years that might give you a feel for the layout and grounds. Some areas will be somewhat difficult for a wheel chair as their are some pretty steep hills, but there are a lot of areas on the flats. A ECV would be a lot better than a hand pushed wheel chair. IMO

Blue, right on. Those will most definitely come in handeee. I just wanted a general idea of what I was getting myself into. I've heard lots of stories of it being tuff on me to get around.
Those pix will help for sure. I'll bring my knobby tires. I don't see any hills, grass yes, but not hills. I think I'll still get a scooter for the first day at least. I can handle the big swap meets and this looks do-able even if I just use good ol' bicep horsepower.
I had an B5 blue inside and out '70 Charger RT 4 gear is where I got the username. I had to let it go after 2 years of waiting for my legs to start working...never happened. I got tired of watching other people enjoy themselves driving it, yeah I'm selfish,LOL.
I'm one of those that doesn't like "change". One of these days.
We did have a '99 Ram with that was painted that real purdy blue too. My wife ran it around being 4 quarts low on oil so it's gone too. :(
I'll make it obvious who I am when I'm there...so everyone step in front of me and say 'HI".

Well I never made it that year. June 16 I suffered 2 strokes & was in a coma for 6 days.
I'm just now getting to fulfill a dream of mine to come to Carlisle. No better year than the celebration of the 1970 model year. Unfortunately a friend of mine who's finishing up a rotisserie of his '70 Charger R/T isn't gonna make it. But the opportunity to finally meet several folks I've only known on the 'net should make up for it.
