Traffic Patterns at K Street

Why does the intersection at Spring Road and K Street have a different traffic pattern then the rest. It is very confusing. When you are driving South on Rt 34 (Spring Road) the inside lane is for left turns AND straight through. The outside lane is for right turns ONLY. That really slows up traffic. Especially for the locals who have to go to work. It is a wonder there hasn't been a lot of accidents there because of the odd lane patterns. I have seen many go straight from the RIGHT lane.
Please tell me why.

It so you everyone is turned away from the intersection of Clay and Spring Rd
Its much easier to turn right and avoid all the traffic than to go straight.
Think if it was backwards and the right lane was for turning right only and the left lane was for going straight and left turns only. During car shows people who travel 34 south would be a in a traffic jam casue everyone one was turning left.
And if you do live in Carlisle then you know its just easier to go the back way down Waggners Gap. Yea its longer but there is never traffic that way.
